Volunteering at the Diane Peppler Resource Center
Shelter volunteers perform many duties for the DPRC including crisis phone coverage (the primary volunteer responsibility), shelter coverage, holiday coverage, fundraising activities, and any other duties that may arise. Anyone interested in helping is asked to contact Katie at the the DPRC at 1-906-635-0566, or through e-mail at cholcherk@dprcenter.org.
About being a crisis line volunteer
One of the vital services the Diane Peppler Resource Center provides is the 365 day a year, 24 hour a day phone line, so that victims may call at any time and receive assistance. The Diane Peppler Resource Center relies on volunteers to help with the 24 hour crisis line. Crisis phone volunteers agree to have the crisis phone transfered to their homes where they provide coverage from 11 p.m. to 7:45 a.m. so volunteers are able to be at their home during their shift. All volunteers are provided with training so they are able to answer questions and be prepared for situations which may arise.
Night Monitor
Night Monitors receive free room and board at the shelter for 11 p.m. to 7:45 a.m. for providing shelter coverage for emergency purposes. Night Monitors sleep at the shelter during these hours, and respond to any emergencies which may arise. Training is provided. Positions are occasionally available: for more information contact the DPRC at 1-906-635-0566, or e-mail at dprcenter@dprcenter.org
Luce and Mackinac County Volunteers
We are always seeking emergency transporters to the Sault Ste. Marie shelter facility, and responders to Mackinaw Straits and Helen Newberry Joy Hospital Emergency Rooms. Training is provided. For more information contact the DPRC at 1-906-635-0566, or e-mail at dprcenter@dprcenter.org
